Final Preparations

As I mentioned in my last post, I went to a lab and had a blood test done to compare cholesteral rates before and after the Chicken Wing Project. I will have the results on tuesday and they will be posted then.

I bought a fancy scale that takes measurements of weight, body fat, and BMI. Well..... I stepped on the scale yesterday and weighed 126.4 LBS! Something had to be wrong... terribly wrong. You see, I have stopped running in the last month due to my new fucked up work schedule, and I also enjoy McDonald's breakfast on the way home each morning. So you can imagine how alarmed I was when the scale showed that I had lost 60-65 LBS!

I finally got the scale to work and here are the official preliminary measurements:

WEIGHT: 186.2 lbs
BODY FAT %: 23.7
BMI: 25.2

Its a little higher than I expected but not much.

I'm now eager to see how eating nothing but Chicken Wings will effect my body.

Irrational Thoughts

Fear makes a man think strange and irrational thoughts. This past Freday (many of you call this day Friday) I was getting a blood test in preparation for the Chicken Wing Project. Now, I have an intense fear of needles and was not looking forward to getting blood drawn, but I didn't think much about it at all until the nurse tied the rubber thingy (not sure if that is the proper scientific name for it or not) around my arm. When she did this, my heart rate surged and I started to get really nervous.

Terrible and irrational thoughts entered into my head. "What the fuck am I doing? This is the dumbest thing I've ever done! What am I doing? This is so stupid."

I apologize to the readers for publishing such blasphemous thoughts. Let me assure you that this is the SMARTEST THING I'VE EVER DONE and that the Chicken Wing Project will go on as planned.

Fred Wings It... Reluctantly

As you all know, I have been looking for a sponsor or sponsors to provide Wings and support. Well, unfortunately I have been unable to find any restaurant chains that are willing to take on this role. There was one chain that I was optimistic about, however, in the end they declined to sponsor me.

No big deal.

The original name of the Chicken Wing Project was "Fred Wings It" and that is exactly what I will be doing. I will "Wing" my way through January in a somewhat random manner. I will be cooking a lot of my Wings at home, yet I will also be visiting many different Wing serving establishments and rating them objectively on this site. Still, to all the Wing selling restaurants out there, I have to point out that FREE WINGS ARE AUTOMATICALLY RATED HIGHER!!!

You might notice that up until now, I have refrained from mentioning restaurants by name so as not to jeopardize any sponsorship. Starting now, this is no longer the case.

I am ready to go.

Let the Winging begin!

Sorry yall-- long time no update. I've been busy with work and trying to adjust to my new schedule (I now work nights--yuck!). I know its been a couple of weeks since I updated, but I will be making several posts today and will begin posting (near) daily.

I wanted to start off my return by making a Fredication to Mike Fletcher. Fletch was hit by a car 2 weeks ago and when I visited him in the hospital after that I promised him that I would post a dedication to him on the site. Sorry that I never got around to doing it Fletch! When I went into the room to visit him, he told me that he hadn't eaten in several days... and that all he wanted was Chicken Wings!!! You should have seen the look on his dad's face. Anyways Fletch is doing much better now and we are all glad.

On a side note, I will be working with doctors to create a Chicken Wing formula that can be given to patients in IV form so that in the future people like Fletch can get their Wing fix.

Guess What I Ate For Dinner Last Night

If you guessed Chicken Wings, then you are correct! In a Tuesday night ritual, I ate a dozen Wings, half of them Hot and the other half teriyaki. I am a big fan of the Wings at this particular restaurant. They are always meaty and delicious. I'm pretty sure that this was my first time ordering teriyaki Wings there, and it will probably be the last. The Wing sauce was way too sweet and it wasnt exactly to my liking. Don't get me wrong the Wings still tasted good, but this place has several other flavors that I like better so I will probably order one of them over the teriyaki in the future. The Hot Wings, as always were awesome.

To answer your question Greg, I don't think the bank would accept Chicken Wings as a payment on your mortgage no matter how delicious they are. You may need to refinance your house using some sort of Chicken Wing bank (not sure if they have these). I wish I owned a Chicken Wing bank...

Chicken Wing Project Store Updated

Chris Cassimus has recently been appointed as head of product development for the Chicken Wing Project! Chris has been working hard to come up with designs for our products. In the last several days, he has created our official bumper sticker, several Chicken Wing Project "campaign" style buttons, a poster, and a t-shirt. They are definitely worth checking out if you haven't already seen them. You should continue to check the store daily, as more and more gear will soon be up.

To [boneless] Wing It, Or Not To [boneless] Wing It... That Is The Question

In this post I will address a question that I am asked a lot: will you eat "boneless Wings" in January? The answer I always give is a clear no. I consider myself to be a Chicken Wing purist, believing that only an actual Chicken Wing should count as a Chicken Wing. Let me be clear: boneless Wings are not Chicken Wings! The meat used to make boneless Wings comes from Chicken breasts. I do consider Chicken breasts and boneless Wings to be very very tasty, but I just do not see how one can consider them to be Chicken Wings. Just because someone decided to declare boneless Wings to be Wings does not make it true. Using this logic, I could even go so far as to declare turkey to be Chicken Wings just because I wanted to eat it in January. The truth of the matter is that boneless "Wings" are no more than Chicken fingers (or Chicken tenders) under a different and misleading name.

any questions or comments... feel free to post them and I will respond

Homemade Wings On Saturday!

Saturday evening about 6pm, I received a phone call from my friend Ben telling me that some friends were deep frying some Chicken Wings. Within thirty six seconds, I had driven 11 miles and arrived at the house to find mounds and mounds of Chicken Wings! It was a sight that was so beautiful that it caused a single tear to roll down my face. My friends had bought a 10 pound bag of Wings! I'm not sure if they cooked all 10 pounds or not, but there were a ton of Wings. In my opinion the best Wings were the Honey BBQ Wings, followed by the breaded Wings that Fletch cooked up. They cooked had a couple of other flavors too. I really liked dipping the breaded Wings in that hot red Chinese sauce in the big bottle with the Chinese writing on it... sorry I'm not sure what it was called, but it was delicious!

And to answer your question Greg: if i did have a yacht, I would prefer to eat Wings on it while sailing in the Caribbean.

I Ate Wings Last Night

Last night I went to a local eatery and decided to order a dozen Wings. I had been to this restaurant several times in the past and so I knew that I was in for a delicious treat. After looking at the menu for almost an entire minute, I became sure that I would be eating Wings. The only issue left to resolve was which type of Wings I would be eating. After another long period of thinking this through (this time almost 20 seconds), I finally decided to on 6 Hot Wings and 6 Carolina BBQ Wings.

Let me just say that the Wings were great. They had plenty of meat on the bones and were cooked to perfection! The hot Wings had a nice flavor to them, good and not too hot. And The Carolina BBQ Wings... they were glorious. I like these ones a lot. They had a nice tangy flavor to them that I liked ever-so-much.

Man, I love Chicken Wings!

I haven't made a blog post in a few days so I figured that it wouldn't be a bad idea to post an update on our progress.

I think that the FaceBook and MySpace pages are really helping out with publicity. The FaceBook Group now has 145 members. In fact, in the last 7 days alone, the site has logged 444 hits!

I have made contact with several regional and national restaurant chains which sell Chicken Wings in hopes of securing a contract of sponsorship. Hopefully we will know which chain will be our sponsor soon so that we can make the necessary changes to the layout of the website.

Thanks again to Chris Cassimus who has spent a ton of time creating several logos for the Chicken Wing Project.

I am still trying to work out the problems with the merchandise that I uploaded to and I am hoping to have the store functional by the end of the week.

By the way, I will be "training" for January by eating Wings tonight, so be sure to check back tomorrow for my report on their tastiness!

And of course, please continue to check out our sponsors!!!

Thats What Friends Are For!

Quick post today as there is no real news on the Chicken Wing Project. I just wanted to thank a few friends for their help. I definitely couldn't have done a lot of this shit on my own so I am very thankful. Thanks to Chris Cassimus for designing a bumper sticker and poster for the Facebook group. Early next week, I will be checking about copyright laws to see if we can sell them on the site. Thanks to Robert Vaughan (Hawk, or Michael Rapaport--whatever you wanna call him) for helping me with publicity by inviting a bunch of people to the Facebook group. I also understand a Wikipedia effort is coming soon! Thanks.

Also thanks to Danny Rogers who was the original webmaster. Due to problems that were out of his control, he was unable to complete the website in time, but I appreciate the effort.

Finally, much love to Kien Arnold. He whipped me up this site and has been helping me create the bumper stickers, layouts and a bunch of other stuff that I couldn't do on my own! Without Kien's help last week, the Chicken Wing Project media effort would be seriously behind schedule. Thanks!

Thanks anyone else that I forgot!

Don't Buy That Bumper Sticker---YET!!!

We finally got some designs uploaded for the Chicken Wing Project store, but unfortunately, something went wrong. The design on the I Heart Chicken Wings bumper sticker was supposed to take up the whole sticker (you know, so you could actually se the logo from the road). I've got my buddy trying to redo the design now so that it will perfect. I hope that no one has bought the current sticker! The new and improved SHOULD be ready for purchase by Monday.

By the way, I think they are only something like $3.74 after tax and shipping fees.

Updates--Almost Finished

In the last week, I have been out in Colorado spending a great deal of time trying to get all of the pieces for the Chicken Wing Project put together. A lot of this work has been done on the internet building up our marketing base. My friend Kien spent a ton of time building our website, and I think it looks damn good. A couple of small changes and it will be good to go. I finally broke down and went against everything I believe in and created a MySpace page to help market the Chicken Wing Project. If you are on MySpace, check out our page (the link is on the right side of this blog) and be my friend. I have also created a FaceBook group page to help promote the Chicken Wing Project. Please invite your friends to it! I have made a store to sell Chicken Wing Project merchandise, but I am having trouble uploading our designs. Please be patient. I am hoping that all the stuff will be available for purchase by the end of the week.

As you can see, this is our blog page. Not much here so far, but expect more frequent updates as January approaches. During January, I hope to update just about every single day. Expect our main site to have plenty of pictures and videos uploaded soon, and if you happen to have any pics or vids of me eating Chicken Wings, please email them to me:

Also, Google put up some ads which point ot excellent sponsors, so please please check them out (afterall, these Chicken Wings won't buy themselves).

I am trying to work on a deal to get some T-Shirts made in Georgia for real cheap (cheaper than on my internet store and no shipping!). So to all my friends in Georgia who want a shirt let me know and tell me your size so I can make an appropriate number.

Ill be back in a few days with another post!

While I was tailgating for the Georgia Bulldogs football game, I struck up a conversation with a friend at about 10am about how awesome Chicken Wings are. He said that instead of just talking about Chicken Wings we should go get some... by 10:30, I was chowing down on a dozen Hot Honey barbecue Wings. Later that night, after the football game, the urge struck me once again. I ordered another dozen Wings, this time they were Hot Wings... they were so awesome.

Welcome To The Chicken Wing Project

Welcome to the Chicken Wing Project. The goal of the Chicken Wing Project is simple: for the entire month of January 2007, I will eat nothing but Chicken Wings and traditional Chicken Wing side items such as carrots and celery. You may be asking yourself why someone would do something like this? If you are, then I feel sorry for you. Chicken Wings are undoubtedly the greatest food in the entire world. Several months back, I began to think about Chicken Wings a lot. Often, my cheating mind would end up fantasizing about them while I was eating other foods. I started suffering symptoms of withdrawal if I went several days without them and sometimes I would break down and cry.

The Chicken Wing Project came from a single thought which was so simple, yet so profound that it will end up changing the world as we know it: "I love Chicken Wings so much that I could eat them every day!" That thought alone led to a revolution in my mind. You see, I hate when people repeatedly complain about problems that they have, but refuse to do anything about those problems. That is how hippies act, and I HATE hippies. So, my profound thought led me to realize that rather than just thinking about eating Chicken Wings everyday, I should do something about it. So, while tailgating at a University of Georgia football game I made a drunken proclamation that in January of 2007, I would be eating nothing other than Chicken Wings. I received a great deal of support and surprisingly after I sobered up the idea seemed even better!

So check back often, in the coming months this blog will be updated with tales of Chicken Wing eating.

After its completion, The Chicken Wing Project could quite possibly go down in history as the GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND!
